Neotoma macrotis was split from Neotoma fuscipes by Matocq (2002).

Description

From Ceballos (ed., 2014): "Neotoma macrotis is a medium-sized rat. The dorsal coloration varies from gray to brown and the belly is white. The feet are brown at the base and white in the mid-part. The tail is slightly bicolored and almost naked. The ears are wide and have a moderate amount of hair (Hall, 1981; Jameson and Peeters, 1988)."
