Sorex gaspensis

Sorex gaspensis was formerly considered to be separate species. In 2008, Shafer et al. published: "The results of our polymerase chain reaction–based inter-SINE fingerprinting analysis support the conclusion of Rhymer et al. (2004); Gaspe´ shrews are not phylogenetically distinct from long-tailed shrews, and should be merged into a single species, with S. dispar having nomenclatural priority."
