Hystricognathi is an infraorder of rodents containing over 320 species. It includes species commonly referred to as porcupines, spiny rats, cavys, capybaras, Guinea pigs, agoutis, chinchillas, chinchilla rats, viscachas, mole rats, cane rats, tuco-tucos, hutias, bamboo rats, tree-rats, brush-tailed rats, toros, degus, and other relatives. One species occurs in the United States—the North American Porcupine (Erethizon dorsatum).
