WhiskerWiki:Sandbox/Arizona County Mammal Map

From WhiskerWiki
Sandbox
Arizona County Mammal Map. This page is a scratch space for testing features and content. It isn't part of the encyclopedia and may be changed or cleared at any time. See all sandboxes.

This sandbox is the model for county-level small mammal maps: one map per state, showing how its counties compare for rodents (Rodentia) and for shrews and moles (Eulipotyphla). It starts with Arizona; once it looks right, the same map can be added to every state page. For the whole country, see the United States Small Mammal Portal.

Hover over a county (or tap it on a phone) to see how many species of each group are recorded there, which species are found in no other Arizona county, and which families are best represented. Click a county to open its page.

About the data

The counts come from the same species-by-county lists shown on each county's page. They are built from species range maps: a species counts in a county if its range reaches any part of it. Because many ranges cover whole regions, neighboring counties often share most of their species, and the "found in no other county" lists are where the differences show. Use By species above the map to see which counties any one species is recorded in.
